In the lead-up to the University of Nairobi Innovation Week, the Department of Biology is excited to launch the first-ever Biology Innovation Challenge. This initiative aims to foster a culture of innovation and sustainability through STEM-based training.
Our main goal is to encourage the sharing of research outputs, promote innovative research solutions, and influence policy through active student participation. The challenge will provide opportunities for mentorship, networking, and industry exposure, while bringing together students, faculty, technical staff, and alumni to support student success.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Participation is open to individual students or teams of up to five members. All participants must submit their proposals by April 12th, 2025. Each team or individual will choose one category for their submission.
CATEGORIES FOR ENTRY
Eligible students (3rd and 4th years) can submit their ideas, research, or innovations under the following categories:
- Environmental & Ecological Solutions
- Microbiology & Biotechnology
- General Biology
- Technology & AI in Biology

CULTURAL DAY PARTICIPATION
Students interested in showcasing their creative talents during the Department Cultural Day are also invited to submit their names and ideas through the Department of Biology email address. chair-dept.biology@uonbi.ac.ke
AWARDS
Winners in each category—both teams and individuals—will receive prizes and gifts in recognition of their outstanding innovations.
